Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that starting therapy can bring up many questions. Here are answers to the ones we hear most often.

Getting Started

How do I schedule my first appointment?

You can schedule a free 15-minute consultation by clicking the "Book Consultation" button on our website. During this brief call, we'll discuss your needs, answer questions, and match you with the clinician best suited to help. From there, we'll schedule your first full session.

What should I expect during my first session?

Your first session is an opportunity to get to know each other. We'll discuss what brings you to therapy, your goals, and your history. You'll have a chance to ask questions and get comfortable. There's no pressure to share more than you're ready to — we'll go at your pace.

How long are therapy sessions?

Standard individual therapy sessions are 50 minutes. Some specialized sessions may be longer, which we would discuss and arrange in advance.

How often should I attend therapy?

Most clients begin with weekly sessions to build momentum and establish a strong therapeutic relationship. As you progress, we may adjust to biweekly or monthly sessions based on your needs and goals.

About Therapy

What types of therapy do you offer?

Our clinicians use an integrative approach that draws from multiple evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, mindfulness-based techniques, trauma-focused therapy, and person-centered therapy. Your treatment is tailored to your specific needs.

How do sessions work?

All sessions are currently held via telehealth — secure, HIPAA-compliant video — so you can meet with your clinician from anywhere in Florida. Virtual sessions provide the same quality of care with added convenience. In-person sessions in the Miami area are planned as we grow.

How will I be matched with a therapist?

During your free consultation we'll listen to what you're looking for — concerns, goals, preferences — and recommend the clinician whose specialties fit best. If it ever feels like a better fit exists within the practice, switching is simple and never awkward.

How long does therapy typically last?

The duration of therapy varies for each person. Some clients find relief in 8–12 sessions, while others benefit from longer-term support. We'll regularly review your progress together and adjust our approach as needed.

Is everything I share confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. What you share in sessions is protected by law and professional ethics. There are very limited exceptions, which we'll discuss during your first session (such as imminent danger to self or others, or suspected child/elder abuse).

Insurance & Payment

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, we accept several major insurance plans including Aetna, Cigna, Optum, Oscar, Oxford, UHC and Florida Blue. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to verify your mental health benefits before your first appointment.

What if my insurance isn't accepted?

If we don't accept your insurance, we can provide a superbill (detailed receipt) that you can submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. We also offer competitive self-pay rates.

What are your self-pay rates?

Please contact us directly for current self-pay rates. We believe everyone deserves access to quality mental health care and are happy to discuss payment options during your free consultation.

Practical Questions

What is your cancellation policy?

We require 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations or no-shows may be subject to a fee. We understand that life happens and will always work with you on a case-by-case basis.

Do you prescribe medication?

Our therapists do not prescribe medication. However, if medication may be beneficial, we can refer you to a trusted psychiatrist or collaborate with your current prescriber to ensure coordinated care.

What if I'm in crisis outside of session hours?

If you are in immediate danger, please call 911. For crisis support, contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988) or the Crisis Text Line (text HOME to 741741). These services are available 24/7.
